I've been up a couple of times now. It's not too onerous. You have to fly a
flight plan, with a transponder code, and then call up a special frequency
in the air while they track you in the restricted area. The only nuisance is
the lack of flexibility with the timing. The flight plans have to be filed
at least an hour in advance, and they want you within 5 or 10 minutes of the
times you give them.

The weather has just been too nice not to fly.

That's good to hear I never read the NOTAM just the doom and gloom from
copa. We had perfect flying weather here today. I got up for an hour and a
half of just cruising around. Gotta put some more hours on my #@!! ECI
cylinders before I send them back. They got caught by the new expanded AD.
I had hoped that buying a new engine would leave me worry free for the next
20 years. My ignition has been back twice and now this cylinder fiasco. I
never had to spend a penny on my 0-290 and it is older than me.

Glad it all worked out the way it was supposed to Walter!

As you know I was a tad nervous working from photos and measurements to
compare the similarities and differences to my float install over yours (and
a different canoe model thrown in just for kicks!)..... to make it all work
for you.

I have been real happy with my new engine. I have ECI cylinders, too, but
they are the newer ones after the recall period, so mine are good. They are
the tapered fin EXP ones with the venturi intakes. I think that is part of
where I get the extra hp on mine.

My LSE Plasma III has been good too, and great fuel economy, as I have
mentioned here many times before. I have the digital display with it, and it
gives me the actual advance in degrees at any point in time, as well as the
MP. That along with my fuel monitor allows me to select a more economical
cruise speed if that is what I want.

Yes, I was quite impressed how accurate you were with the measurements,
given that you have the shorter float struts on yours, and we changed the
mounting slightly. It should actually be quite universal now with the way we
did it on mine.

And it should work fine on Drew's 14' Sportpal, too...

I had quite a few high time float guys come around my hangar when I was
installing it, and no one had ever seen anything like it. It's definitely an
ingenious idea.

Out of curiosity, why is not the bow (pointy end) not
positioned forward?? Seems it might reduce drag a bit.

I have a lot of people ask that. But as you know on airplanes, the leading
edges are always blunter than the trailing edges. If the trailing edge is
blunt, you get turbulence which causes drag. With a canoe, you also don't
want turbulence back there near the stabs.
