more fuelgauges

Hi again, Dave R. "very accurate"? I have never flown a tank dry, but it
gives you a far better indication than the tube "gauge". It works for me, as
I have to "work the tanks" a lot more than a builder with a standard
aircraft engine. Why? Because the Legacy engine returns roughly 80% of the
fuel that it is fed and I therefore have a return fuel line selector valve.
This allows me to compensate for any great disparities in fuel left tank
versus fuel right tank. In other words I peek at the gauges a lot more than
the average pilot. It is by the way no great sin if you are flying around
solo(left seat) to load up the right tank a little more. In reference to my
friend with the mechanical gauges also. Since the arm (rod) that has the
cork on its end is installed 90 degrees, sideways, to the direction of
travel, I can't see what the position of the tail has to do with the
accuracy of the gauges? Maybe I am not reading it right. I did go through a
little not-complicated process to calibrate the movement of the arm and
movement of the indicator needle and yes the cork was travelled from all the
way to laying on the bottom to the end of its travel upward. This was done
before I put the topskin on the fueltank. Again, a no big-deal process.
This adds another item I should remark on. These dumb Subaru fuelpumps have
a little leaded weight filter set-up that will assure that the pump sucks up
the last drop of fuel almost, I exaggerate, but there is very little
unusable fuel in my tanks. I hope all this sheds some light and does not
confuse anybody. Bi, Geert
