[rebel-builders] FUS-5: horizontal holes for conduit

There is a 1/2" hole in the lower gusset plates already, at least on newer
parts (older parts had a tooling hole). The tube strength is not comprised
by drilling through the tube in this hole. I've seen some pretty mangled
carrythrough structures.. including the current one I'm rebuilding that is 4
inches off plumb from top to bottom.. and the tubes did not bend inside the
containment of the gusset plates.. then bend above it.. ..

If you are talking about drilling above/beyond the confines of the gusset
plates DON'T !!

Hi All,

Looked through the archives but could not find anything about drilling
holes
horizontally (down the centerline of the aircraft) through the FUS-5 tubes
to
install a conduit. I know some have routed fuel lines at the edges
(through
the existing holes in the gussets) but would a 1/4" or 5/16" hole right
down
the center of both FUS-5s compromise the structural integrity of the unit?
How about 1/2"?

I'm guessing there's a reason it hasn't been done....;)

Ya Wayne, sounds like Rob want to drill holes in the centre section of the
Fus-5's.

Like Wayne says, DON'T drill outside of the gusset plates.

Cheers,
Jeff
