[rebel-builders] Rebel / Elite control colomn to bellcrank push pull tube i

Post by Wayne G. O'Shea » Sun Feb 19, 2012 6:02 pm

We've been modifying this from the get go.. put Jam nuts on both ends of
that push pull tube. Lock the one that's inside the control column....then
on the rod end at the bellcrank end.....use a piece of 5/16 OD x 1/4ID steel
tubing (brake line works great).. and cut two slices about a 3/16 wide.
Place one above and one below the ball in the rod end when assembling (with
a longer bolt than spec'd obviously). This allows the rod end to rotate
further than if it's held captive by the bellcrank plate and penny washer
alone. When doing your final control set up.. and you have the elevator
throws where you want it and your stick stops set.... pull the stick back
and forth full travel and play with the spot you lock the jam nut on the
bellcrank end of the push pull tube. After a few tries you will get it
locked in the right spot to allow full stick travel and no binding or
loosening of the jam nut..... and then you can stop worrying about whether
or not the thread going in and out.. in and out on that aluminum plug is
stripping out the threads.

Dennis,

The p/p tube coming out of the control column is only tightened at one
end,
therefore I don't see how the thread will strip from movement fore and
aft.

But I'm open to ideas of others and would like to see your installation
pictures.

Thanks for bringing this to the table.

Cheers,
Jeff

Well the subject has come up about things to loose sleep over think
about this. The rod that connects your movement from the control stick
to the aileron bell crank , the rod end is screwed in to an aluminum
boss and allowed to rotate back and forth as you move the control
forward and backward ,how long do you thick it will take before it
wares the aluminum thread out , being an aircraft machinist and spent
a long time repairing such things I thought that I would put this to
you and maybe you will keep a close eye on it !. I did not use this
method on my plane .
