[rebel-builders] Moose: aileron push pull tube

I had rivets rubbing ever so slightly on one wing at the aileron end too.
Just watched it carefully at every preflight. I wouldn't go to smaller
tube. Guess it depends on how severe the rub/interference is in your case.
A smaller tube or just watch it are probably your only two options. Or,
maybe drill other holes at 45* rather than current 90* angle on the tube so
rivets do not rub?

Unfortunately no. the rivets are binding on the sides at the aileron end. I
can get adequate clearance at the torqur tube but not at the aileron.
What about using a smaller diameter tube. like raw stock 22 (3/4" vs 1")
would that be strong enough

Oh, sorry. I misunderstood. Can you add washers to one side or the other
with a longer bolt to move the tube position so it doesn't rub?

Hi Ted,

They are the tubes that are at the mid point in the wing near where the
strut attach is.

Are they--the push pull tubes--parallel to the wing & cabin (good), or
are
they running at angle (not good). Take a picture if possible, though I
suspect either your wing mount point is too long or your cabin one too
short
(or both)--shouldn't happen, though, as I don't recall any need to trim
the
wing one.

Hi Ted,

It's is the ones that are in the wing attaching tie aileron to the torque
tube.

What bulkheads...the overhead ones or outside the cabin where the one
longer
push-pull tube connects to the wing torque tube?

1" sounds right, though I'd have to go measure mine at the hangar to be
sure. I have a ton of space around my cabin push-pull tubes. I can't
imagine how your clearance is that close. The outside-cabin, longer,
push-pull tube clearance is tighter, but still plenty of space.

Post a couple of pictures to the site or email me some @ ted@vafm.org

Is the 1inch tubing the right size for the aileron push pull tube? The
clearance is extremely tight and seems to rub on the bulkheads.

It is in the manual and cd that you are to file clearance around the push
pull tubes to get clearance so they dont rub on the bulkhead.... if you need

File for clearance? File what? Those bulkheads are pretty thin (e.g. 0.020
maybe) already! Maybe the manual does say "...file for clearance..." but I
sure wouldn't. File the rivet heads--nope on that too.

If I am understanding right he is talking about where the push pull rods go
thru the spars on the inside of the wings not the area along the fuselage or
inside the fuselage.. If I am wrong I will apologize... This should be the
only area of close material when installing the push pull rods... Dale

I think you're right, but if he has the same issue as I did, then the rivets
on the end of the aileron tube rub slightly (or did so) on the rear aileron
bulkhead. You know, that quarter-circle bulkhead at the leading edge of the
aileron right where the push-pull tube bolts to the aileron.

Maybe I'm missing something yet again though in his description. Anyway,
again, that's where I had slight rivet/tube rubbing.

Dave and Other Builders Please Take Note........

NEVER DOWNSIZE the material that you're suppose to use........

"I wouldn't go to smaller tube. Guess it depends on how severe the
rub/interference is in your case.
A smaller tube or just watch it are probably your only two options"

You can UPGRADE material, but NEVER downgrade.

Cheers,
Jeff

Maybe you could flush rivet the affected ones?
