[rebel-builders] aileron push pull tube

What bulkheads...the overhead ones or outside the cabin where the one longer
push-pull tube connects to the wing torque tube?

1" sounds right, though I'd have to go measure mine at the hangar to be
sure. I have a ton of space around my cabin push-pull tubes. I can't
imagine how your clearance is that close. The outside-cabin, longer,
push-pull tube clearance is tighter, but still plenty of space.

Post a couple of pictures to the site or email me some @ ted@vafm.org

Is the 1inch tubing the right size for the aileron push pull tube? The
clearance is extremely tight and seems to rub on the bulkheads.

Are they--the push pull tubes--parallel to the wing & cabin (good), or are
they running at angle (not good). Take a picture if possible, though I
suspect either your wing mount point is too long or your cabin one too short
(or both)--shouldn't happen, though, as I don't recall any need to trim the
wing one.

Hi Ted,

They are the tubes that are at the mid point in the wing near where the
strut attach is.

Oh, sorry. I misunderstood. Can you add washers to one side or the other
with a longer bolt to move the tube position so it doesn't rub?

[rebel-builders] aileron push pull tube

Unfortunately no. the rivets are binding on the sides at the aileron end. I
can get adequate clearance at the torqur tube but not at the aileron.
What about using a smaller diameter tube. like raw stock 22 (3/4" vs 1")
would that be strong enough

[rebel-builders] Aileron Push Pull Tube

Dave,

If you used 4130 tube as per part # I emailed you likely would be Ok.

Better Heim/Aurora bearings help side-to-side motion.

Seems that you're doing everything else right from what I can tell.

Good job!

Hi All,

Sorry I have been away.

Thanks Jeff I had thought about down sizing but agree. Not such a good Idea,

Ted you are right it's the tube in the wing and the rivets are rubbing on
both the aileron bulk head (the curved part that faces the wing, the rivets
are also rubbing on the wing spar. I have ground a few thousandths off the
spar and adjusted the side play on the aileron, clearance is ok have also
spread the aileron bulkheads apart a few thousanths and seem to be getting
clearance but just a few thousanths.
Next I think I need to shim the aileron bushings to prevent side to side
motion on the aileron. Thinking of using nylon spacers.

Any comments please advise.

Thanks,

DAve Greaton
