As I pull the latest wreck apart.. some things just jump up and make me
wonder how long it would have taken for an inflight instead of a landing
incident. I also give thought to how many others might be out there with the

same conditions and I post to be sure nobody here is making the same errors
on their Rebel build.

Control column.. those two bearing bases get riveted in with 3/16" rivets..
RV-1613's.. not 1/8" x RV1410's.. and especially not when the carrythru's
have been cut in half and those rivets are into two layers of skin and not
the .125 FUS-5's !! Better yet if you have the full size FUS-5's.. drill and

tap the right side bearing base for AN3 bolts so you can easily remove the
column to work up under the panel.

The elevator push/pull tube's end plugs get riveted in with FOUR 1/8"
stainless steel rivets... not TWO !.. that goes for ALL the push pull tubes.

Cleco's are not used to hold structure together after the build is done.....

ANYWHERE. Count them in and out as you build, just like a surgeon is suppose

to do with his tools.

Okay.. now maybe I can sleep.. unless a good looking Brunette keeps me up
late.... ;O)

[rebel-builders] Things that keep me awake at night.. Rebel

Forgot to mention one... that it appears many people miss, as this is the
7th airplane I have found this on over the years!!

When you install the extra set of bulkheads, to install the float hard
points... remember that although it may not get mentioned in the manual ( I
didn't check).. you need to drill and rivet those bulkheads to the bottom
skin of the fuselage. It's not helping much if it's just left flapping
around in there !!

[rebel-builders] Things that keep me awake at night.. Rebel

Posted: Sun Feb 19, 2012 6:02 pm
by Jeff Micheal
Hi Wayne,

FYI, it is mentioned in the build manual (at least the one I have). The
following is excerpt is taken from Murphy Aircraft Mfg Ltd Rebel build
manual.

*12.27 Float Attach Points (optional)*

*19) On the outside of the floor skin, mark a line along the center of the
new bulkhead flange. Drill, debur and rivet the bulkhead through the floor
at the same spacing as the other bulkheads.

20) Repeat for the side skins.*

I've seen the float bulkhead riveted to the floor, but not the
sides........... go figure !!

Cheers,
Jeff
