[rebel-builders] FUS 33 install

Hi Mike,

The width of all my fus 33's is 10 3/8" (measured over the outside curve -
before install). There is absolutely nothing to trim, as I believe they are
too narrow in width. If anyone has not started the fuselage, could you
please measure the width of your fus 33's for me.

Following the instructions to a 'T', the corner wrap just barely covers the
holes in the side skin.

Hi Roland,
I seem to remember having plenty of material to trim off after
drilling. I drew a 5/16 line on one side and drilled through the skin, and
drilled through the other skin where it suited. I had a friend holding Fus
33 in place while I drilled just to make sure it was hard against the
bulkheads. Your skins must be in the right place if they fit on the
bulkheads so I'm wondering if your Fus 33 is the right size? Let me know if
you need and I'll measure mine.
Cheers Mike 818R

[rebel-builders] FUS 33 install

Roland,

I am about to put some Fus 33 on the rear floor inside. I believe I have two sizes of Fus 33. The larger size is from the original kit and the smaller ones are recently from Murphy. I should be able to measure them tomorrow (Saturday) if I get out to the shop. I also forwarded your Email to another builder who had a similar problem. I'm not sure how he solved it. Maybe Murphy had a bad run of Fus 33 that were trimmed too small?

Roland,

Fus0033 currently are 12" in width, as I recall the narrow Fus0033 were used
inside the aircraft for the floor structure (may have been used on the
outside, but it would of left you little (no) room for error).

Cheers,
Jeff

[rebel-builders] FUS 33 install

I have three left over as I used thicker material on my forward wraps. They
are 11" wide. They are easy to make. Find someone that is use to installing
furnace ducting. They will most likely have a roller long enough to make the
48" length you need. Get some .020 and roll up what you need. If you want
these, let me know. I'm in Alberta.

Thanks Steve and everyone who responded so quickly...

Looks like my Fus33s are definitely not the right size... very frustrating
when you are making great progress. My plan is to get the fuselage completed
and on the gear by end of spring.

I will try to order these and some other parts from MAM again... if no
answer from them in a couple of weeks, I will be back on the list looking
for more suggestions. In the mean time, what thickness of material should
these corner wraps be. Steve indicates .020, but I think they might be
thicker. The ones I have seem like .025 at least.

[rebel-builders] FUS 33 install

Roland,

You can make your own FUS-33's easily. The curve is slight and not a
problem to replicate. The stock thickness is .020 but if near the float
attach points (if installing them) you might think about bumping up to .025.
You'll keep your progress going if you make everything you can and not wait
for delivery. It's just part of the journey! Craig
