N96CS (a super rebel) had an interesting experience yesterday. Just as I
started my takeoff roll, a loud thud and a hard jerk to the left occurred,
and tail tried to come up. Immediately pulled power and the airplane
stopped (was probably going less than 5 mph on grass). Found that the
left forward brake piston assembly had bent the pins and allowed the shoe
to jam tight against the rotor, locking the wheel - even rubbing on the
tire. The right brake showed some signs of the same bending. Very
fortunate time for this to happen - later in TO or on landing, and the
outcome might have been much different. Will disassemble tomorrow and try
to find a cause; aircraft is based on a very smooth grass strip and I can
not recall anything that should have caused this. Probably will want to
replace both brake and wheel assemblies along with tires. Does anyone
know the source of these wheels and brakes - seems like I might have to
wait a while for replacements from factory. Might wa
nt to go t
o all new Cleveland's.

Thanks,

Charlie Starr N96CS

Andrew

I am building a Murphy Yukon, which I believe uses the same landing gear as
the Moose or Super Rebel. This is mostly the building instructions, I have.
I would be interested in your landing gear, since I have not been provided
with any to date, and no idea when I might get it.
I have the wheels and brakes.

Give me an E-mail if you think they might work.
