I like Norm's answer better. But I think (Ok, I know) your suggestion works
Mike. You can also use a putty knife to get most of the proseal off before
using the scotchbrite wheel on the rest. Or, better yet, use a phenolic
scraper ( ACS part # 12-01796). You can make your own out of similar
material or get different sizes of phenolic scrapers at The Yard Store or
Aircraft Tool.

Maybe I'll try Norm's method on my next project <grin>.

Those are pretty pricey (e.g. $10+ ea) compared to the scotchbrite pads
(e.g. $0.65 ea in quantity) Jeff. How do they hold up/how long do they last
compared to the roloc scotchbrite pads?

Ted, it's like this.......

You ever hear the saying "You get what you pay for", well it's true is this
case. The bristle type pads work great, they're flexible enough to get
around rivet heads (or go over top of them) without getting any snags.

I've been down the road of substituting quality product for less expensive
(cheaper) product with somewhat the same result, but the product doesn't
seem to hold up as well as the 3M stuff. I'm sure there's another
manufacturer that makes something similar and cheaper, but I like what I
know works. Unless someone else has a suggestion of a product of similar
stature.

I used ACS as a link just to show product. If you do a search you will find
other distributors that retail for less.

Dave,

I've used all three types. If you're removing thick layers of pro-seal use
the 50, but I would say the 80 gets used the most. I find the 120 was good
for "light" removal jobs and finishing.

A job I did a few years back of removing the top tank skin of a flying moose
was very time consuming, trying to get all the sealant off all the ribs and
mating surfaces (scraping the PS off took for ever) & the scotch brite pads
just started to clog (which added more time to the job). The bristle disc
worked the best for me and ensured getting a good clean surface for the new
tank skin. BTW the wing was sealed and no fuel leak.

The --only-- time I use MEK is with wet/damp recently applied but not yet
dry proseal (works great in this situation). MEK won't touch cured proseal.
