[rebel-builders] Fibre glass rudder tip 818R

I found that the two halves took a lot of cutting and fitting to make them fit both the elevator and rudder tips.

Grit your teeth and go at it.

Hi all,
I'm just starting to get my first tip under way and find I can't make
it fit. In order to fit the leading edge rib at the front, and to
accommodate the taper of the rudder at the rear I need to trim off the
joining flange/s and would then have a butt joint between the two halves,
which I would reinforce with fibreglass tape.
Have I missed something? or would anyone care to comment? I've done
some searches and have found some negative remarks but not much detail.
Any input would be appreciated. Cheers Mike

I found the same thing. I ended up taping the 2 halves together and
fiberglassing a layer of cloth on the inside then another layer of cloth on
the outside and then filled the weave of the cloth. I used west system
epoxy mostly because I've worked with it before with good results. For
filling the weave I mixed microballoons in with the epoxy to thicken it.

I found that a heat gun was very useful for rebending and reforming the
fiberglass cowl, wingtips, and fairings.

My MAM parts were all polyester layups which deform nicely with some heat.

Just don't over do it. A little heat and pressure goes a long way.

Don't forget that Fife still makes great rudder tips too! Saves a bunch of time and they look great!
No I don't own any part nor do I get any share of proceeds for this. Dave is just reluctant to use this site for selling.

Hi Rick,
We keep bugging him about Elite and Moose parts but right now he just
makes stuff for the Rebel. Some of his push rod faring's may be of use on
other aircraft, but I'm not sure what or how.
