Roger,

Are you looking merely to seal your windshield to the frame/cabin or are you
trying to do something else?

After I had trimmed and fit my windshield for probably the 10th time, I used
"Bostick 1100" that I purchased from LP Aero to set it in place. Then, per
the manual, I layed up multiple sets of fiberglass cloth and endless
filler/sanding for the final installation process.

Hello Moosers

Can anyone advise on the best type of resin to use for the windshield
surround?
Should it be epoxy or one of the esters? or does it matter?

Roger (and other windshield retainer builders):

I'm no expert on fiberglass, but I did talk to many folks who are. I used a
"Laminating Resin" for all my fiberglass work. AFAIK, it worked fine
<grin>. Everything is still in one piece and still on the Moose anyway!

hi Ted

It's the making of the actual surround (fibre glass layers) that I'm
doing. I didn't get any resin with the kit so I need to buy some and
my choices are either an epoxy or polyester and I'm not sure if one
is better than the other.

Thanks for the tip on the Bostick, that will be the next thing for me
once the frame is made.

Roger,

To answer your question, to use epoxy or polyester resin? This link will
most likely answer your question and provide some other information you may
not have thought of.

No expert either but the common polyester resin worked just fine for me.

[rebel-builders] Moose WindShield Surround

Hey folks,

New here, been reading the posts for a while.
I just completed my Moose, SR169, this year, first flight in April.

For the windshield installation, I used a big bead of proseal to seat the windshield in place. For the retainer, I used bdirectional cloth with West Systems epoxy resin. I put down several layers of cloth and installed some CS rivets (widely spaced) through the retainer into the metal. Then I put down several more layers of cloth on top of that to finish it. For the left and right vertical sides of the windshield, I made aluminum retainers, riveted the retainers to the skin, and blended them in with a resin mix. This worked very well for me.

Darryl
