Walter....I now also use the JPI as a primary instrument to tell me how my engine is running. Was jumping the 70
miles across Lake Michigan enroute to Oshkosh when I got some "over water roughness" that showed an
immediate change in fuel consumption and an increase in EGT.....right over to the peg! You guessed it...I was building
ice in the clag. Was only able to see the water directly below occasionally so decided to descend. As soon as I pulled on the carb heat, everything returned to normal. It was then that I figured out exactly what had occurred and since then, when in conditions of potential carb
ice, I always watch the JPI and EGT. My AME Buddy tells me that I probably had fuel burning in the exhaust! Interesting how we live and learn!

Bob, yours sounds very similar to my old 320 performance on amphibs. I also
did 7.5 gph at 90 kts, which was my normal cruise speed with that engine on
the amphibs. And I also used my fuel monitor to find the sweet spot for
speed/rpm/leaning to get the best fuel efficiency. I have said before that a
fuel monitor pays for itself with better leaning. And now with my EI on the
360, that gives an even bigger increase in fuel efficiency, and also pays
for itself.

The Sensenich works great if you get the right pitch. Biggest mistake I see,
though, is over pitching by some. The 320 has good power if it can spin at
least 2500 rpm static (initial take-off).

Just got back from a flight today to the lake again. The weather was perfect
for this time of year, no wind, and cool temps (about 5 C). Water was glassy
on Harrison.

I still have my streak going. Since March 29, I have flown (and on water) at
least an hour every week. We have had a lot of windy, rainy days here
lately, but there was always one day of the weekend that was still good for
flying. The ski hills are now open too, so my streak will have to come to an
end for sure in the next couple weeks.

Bernard...I agree with Walter. I have a Rebel on 1800 amphibs with an 0-320
and a Sensenich 74x53 ( just had the prop shop twist a 56 to 53) I get great
off the water
performance and cruise 90 kts @ 7.8 gph or 100 kts @ 9.0 gph. Put a JPI
fuel flow in
coupled to a Garmin 496 so I know exactly how much fuel I have when in the
"bush" in
NW Quebec. I just love the Rebel, best A/C I have ever owned ( of 10). You
will
enjoy your bird, I am sure. Bob Cressman 331R

Bernard, if it is Sensenich, get the 74 X 54 two blade metal prop. Both the
150
hp and the 160 hp 320 Lycomings perform best with this prop when on amphibs.
Do
not get the 74 X 56 inch pitch prop as there is a big loss of performance
compared to the 54 pitch. Your take-off, climb and top speeds will be better

with the 54. And there will be no loss in cruise (just slightly rpm) or fuel

efficiency.

I know this from many hours of flying side by side with other planes with
these
different props, so this is from real life experience, not theory.

thank you Jeff,
I read with pleasure what you've written, especially since it's
rather good
news.
Can you tell me what propeller should be better for an
amphibious Elite, I
think a senssenich, but for which O 320 A2B
