[rebel-builders] mystery part

Hi Ron,

D0005 is used in the doors, if I recall I think for the door locking
mechanism (but I would check on that, I don't have a manual in front of me
right now).

Cheers,
Jeff

Thanks, Jeff, but I don't think that could be it. A D-5 part isn't even
mentioned anywhere in Ch. 23 - Door Assembly, including the lock portion,
and I can't figure out where this rather large, heavy duty 1" square
(radiused inside corners) tube would be used... in the doors or anywhere
else that's still left to build for that matter.

As you know, the lower door latches are made with a smaller, 1/2" ID
non-radiused square tube, and mine are all done and latching fine. :-)
FWIW, it's also not the piece for making seat stops. That's shorter, with an
even thicker 1/8" wall.

Does the LG-44 tubing used in the bungee gear (which I don't have) have
these dimensions (1" x 1" x .065" wall)?

Still puzzled on the peninsula,

Ron

G'Day all, just had a look in my manual, page 3 of section 23 door assy,
(29/06/98) is it the vertical tube in the center of the lower door? (Cut
in half)
fig 23.1.5, I can find all of the D numbers except D-5,

FWIW from down under,
John

The center vertical tube in lower door frame is just another section of 5/8"
square tube, the same as is used in the rest of the door frame. That too is
all done here, and working fine. Nice try John, but no cigar. :-)

Well it seems to fly just fine with 15" of leftover D-5 ;)

Can't remember what I used the rest of it for but I will look this
afternoon. This isn't quite as bad as having leftover pieces after
reassembling your watch. I have a lot of leftover pieces that I remade
or substituted etc. It does remind me of the crossover X braces that go
down from the cage and connect to the bungee but 2' would not be enough
even if the part number had been changed.

Can't remember numbers, but there was a piece of strong square tube that was
cut length wise then cut into sections to make U pieces to cap the seat
rails fore and aft to prevent the seats coming off the rails ??

Any chance it is for the short pieces that goes between the bulkheads at
the rear fuselage attach point for the bungee gear? That would be about
right if my piece was originally 2' Ron.

That's the most viable suggestion so far, Ken. I'll take a look at the gear
Ch. In any case, it doesn't seem to have a role in my spring gear model.
Nice piece of metal though. :-)

Ron,
There is no D-5 in my Elite parts list. However, I have some other parts
that are not listed for the Elite and which I have tried to give back.
Your D-5 could have been included by mistake. Could be a door part for a
Moose?

Regarding the possibility of bungee gear leg parts ...I don't think so. Mine are
apart and I just measured the wall thickness of the 1" sq tubing (top pieces
of wishbone) and they are about 0.100" (knurled edge so approximate). The
1998 MAM labels these as LG-26.

Good advice, Ben. The many erudite contributions of my Rebelious colleagues
have prompted two conclusions: 1) it's not a critical part for 254R, and 2)
the Rebel Edtion of Where's Waldo? can be entertaining. <g>
