[rebel-builders] Spring Gear vs. Bungee (or Wayne's Die spring)

There are 3 Rebels between Si and his son's. I've flown in Si's, freakin' incredible plane. From my understanding, James' Rebel flies better (according to Matt).

They know how to build, that's for sure.

aaahhhhh, come on Bob.....it can't be that bad!!! On a side note. I got a ride in Si Smiths beautiful Rebel a few weeks ago. He has the spring gear and I was absolutely amazed at the light control force that the ailerons and elevator had. Compared to my Champ it was like comparing a Ferarri to a dump truck...WHAT a difference!!!

Yes - they do LOOK good !

I'll let Wayne answer this one .....

I have to go wipe off the blood that's running down my cheek
and dripping from my chin ...... (biting tongue vigorously ... ;-) )

Okay guys.....I know this is a little off subject....but is the Spring
Gear really that bad? In the year 2020 when I get back to working on Rebel
I had planned on installing the Spring Gear....only because that is what I
ordered when I purchased the kit. I personally think the Rebel with the
Spring Gear and speed cowl make the Rebel a much nicer looking plane. I
think this has been rehashed before but can someone list the pros and cons
of each style of gear? I have Murphy's 1800 Amphibs and figured they would
be on the plane most of the time but now that I have found out I can not
lenghthen my strip long enough to safetly operate while on Amphibs, I may
have to formulate other plans. Thanks,

If I had a Rebel's cabin floor completely open.... the only mod I would be
considering to the existing spring gear would be getting rid of it and
installing the bungee style gear.
