Elevator tip weights

Post by Fred Messinger (fredm) » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:36 pm

Hi Guys,

I've had a debate in my head for a couple days.

I'm finishing up the elevator tips and to the point where I need to resolve
some ambiguity in the manual. Figures 3.6.2 and 3.6.3 show the tip weights
at the narrow end of the tip ribs - that is, at the elevator spar end of
the tip. Is this correct? Or do they go in the forward end of the tip
rib? The manual doesn't explicitly say, but it does hint that in the
diagrams...but then the diagram is incorrect in other ways, so I'm suspect.

I can see pros/cons for putting them at either end.

Second, less critical question...
It also says to to cut one of the weights in half and place the halves on
the outside rib of the tips. I'm assuming the weight get's cut along the
shorter dimension of the weight since a shorter piece of EL-412 is needed to
mount it. Is this correct?

Thanks,
Fred

Elevator tip weights

Now that I the archives are back up, a search leads me to believe that the
weights do go towards the front of the tip? Which makes the diagrams in
the manual even more misleading.
