[rebel-builders] 678E update and Thanks!

Flex, before you go to all that trouble, please look at the finished
assembly and ask yourself if it really matters strength wise where the
doubler is located. Function wise it may be quite adequate where it is. Some
things are just not all that critical. Bob J

Michelle and I are still plugging away at our second-hand Elite #678. The
Vertical tail and Rudder are complete! And now it's onto the horizontal
stab.
We cleaned and inspected the horizontal tail today (until it hit over 100deg
F
in our garage in Arizona!). Just like the rudder ant vertical fin, the
horizontal
tail was only rivetted on one side, with the top just being clecoed.
Up to this point, everything has been in accordance with the builder's
manual. But today I found the first mistake. Turns out the previous
builder
put the bottom external doubler (W-326) between the skin and the spar
instead of on top of the skin. So looks like next weekend will be a lot of
rivet
removal to undo this. Wouldn't be to bad except the bottom doubler has the
rear stab mount poking through it, so I'm going to have to remove a metric
butt-load of rivets to slide that thing out of there.
Anyhow, that's where we're at on 678E. Also wanted to thank everybody
again for your help (knowingly or unknowingly). I tend to sift through the
archives on here quite a bit and read the digest daily. Lots of good info!
Blue skies,
