What type of undercarriage do you have, bungee, die spring, spring ?
I have almost complete parts for bungee gear, was mounted on mine then I
removed and switched to die spring, but still have a lot of the parts
Cheers

I'm not an engineer these are just ideas. It would seem to me that as theIn looking over the damaged bungee gear I have, it looks like the drag
strut buckled right at midway where the holes are for the fairing piece
that attaches there. Granted this particular gear set hit an abnormal load
(snow bank at the end of an ice landing), but it does make me think the
holes at the middle point of the drag strut are not the best idea. Any
other thoughts on this?
Although I can't swear to the damage sequence, it appears that the main
gear legs crumpled backward following the failed drag strut. This ended up
particularly bad in terms of repair (of the other airplane) because it tore
off the fuselage lugs of the cage carry through gusset (Fus-2).
I'm back to thinking I'll probably use aluminum and pretty standard stuff
for all of my gear rework, with the exception of using a 4130 drag strut
(.050 wall thickness) and no holes in anything mid-span. As mentioned, I'd
be interested in anyone's thoughts on bungee gear strengths and weaknesses.

main gear leg bent back it would push the fairing piece back causing the
drag strut to bend at the attach point. I think the weak point on the rear
strut is the unsupported bend at the top. If the gear hadn't failed when
it
hit the snowbank the plane would have ended up on it's back. If you weld
it
would probably be easier to make an all steel gear.
