Anytime Gilles! Remember that is just my opinion on the subject
..........and there are many others here that differ and have thinned the
stuff with apparent "success" (but not sure if any have put fuel into that
"success" yet!)

NONE!

I absolutely refuse to play with it and only use as it comes out of the
can
mixed with a proper 10 to 1 (by weight) ratio to the catalyst.

I have never found any reason to thin it to use on anything. Spread it
out
with a putty knife, between mating seems, and cleco/rivet together.

Cheers,
Wayne

Gordon Mohr

proseal

Post by Gordon Mohr » Sat Feb 18, 2012 9:05 am

I agree with Wayne. Proseal doesn't "dry" by evaporation of the
solvent like most sealers. It is a two part chemical reaction and any
added substance will interfere with the process. It would be like
thinning fibreglass with water; the water would be trapped within the
final product and weaken it.
If you don't like the mess of proseal (and who does?), Aircraft Spruce
sells it in cartridges that you can apply with a caulking gun.

If you want thin Proseal, buy thin proseal. It is available in a thick
brushable consistency. I brushed it on the heads of the rivets and along
the seams on the bottom of the tank. I don't knwe if it improved the seal,
but it made me feel better about it. I don't know how it will stand the
test of time, but in passed the baloon test with no problem.

I fixed a leak'r this summer with a 7 year old can that was just as nice to
work with as when it was new. Hardened up quickly etc. and seamed
(intentional spelling) to do the trick! This leak'r was a top stringer in a
tank that has held full fuel for 12 years!!..... so you never know when the
right (or wrong) twist/age etc might cause a weeper to develop.

Mike.
I notice the name is caps - obviously because of the great reverence all
MAM builders have for the wonderous material.

I just mixed a small batch for a non critical adhesive & seal
application from a can that has sat unrefrigerated, Winter and Summer,
in South Carolina for seven years. It set up fine. I would not trust
it for anything important after room temp storage of that duration but
it doesn't go wimpy after six months. Freezer storage should extend
useful life further than my method as well.

I'm with Wayne, keep it frozen and a use will appear.

It looks like I might have to pay the price for taking almost a year off
of building!
I'm about to solid rivet the main spar and I need to proseal in the tank
area.
The problem is that the ProSeal that I received is now out of date as
of. 08/03. It's never been opened.
Do I just through it out or can I use it? I'm inclined not to risk it
but I thought I would ask just in case.

Thanks
