Mike,
The MAM Invoice for mine just says KIT/DROOP TIPS, DROOP WINGTIP KIT. I
tucked them away for the time being as I've not started working on the wing
repair yet ... but I do recall hearing somewhere that they can go on the S/R
and Moose too.

Wing Tips
Since I did the aileron mod that makes the spade full width the only thing I
can think of to do with the aluminum support pieces is to use the one that
goes from the end of the wing and attach it to the rib-like piece to support
the little bit of wing tip that matches up with the trailing end of the
aileron. That's it. The aluminum pieces don't really provide much support
this way. They just close up the openings in the wing tip. Is that what
others have done?

Wing Tips
Tell me if I am crazy or not!
I don't like the poor quality of the MAM fiberglass wing tips that I have.
I made a design, and 1/2 scale model of some Hoerner style wing tips thst
I would make out of aluminum. They look good, are relatively easy to make,
have a place for nav lights and probably have less drag. Am I really off
on a tangent here, or has somebody else done anything like this?
Mike.

Working on wing tips. The manual shows a detail circle with a piece of plywood inside the pieces that build the box around the aileron spade. No mention of it in writing or in future pictures. Is plywood part of this assembly?
I have the droop tips, what is the prefered method of fastening, rivets??

wing tips
Thanks for posting Bob. Nice to see the before and after numbers.
With the Fife tips and the MacKenzie STOL cuff I figure about 45 mph for
the stall but it is kind of a non event as it slowly starts to sink.
Fully controllable with rudder, and the flaperons still work if you are
gentle. Add lots of power and you can hang there for a long time.
Depending on weight and temperature I seldom get much over 1000 fpm
climb but I'm probably only making about 120 hp on the soob and I'm
typically at least 1500 lb. OTOH it will cruise at least 104 mph at
just over 5 USgph and 2300rpm on the 3 blade Warp so I'm pretty happy.
Actually I enjoy the ride so much that I seldom even go that fast. 52
hours so far and I like it more everytime I fly it ;) The guys that
don't fly a taildragger don't know what they are missing...

hi all just a little information update re; wingtips
last week I removed my stock MAM round tips and replaced them with Fife tips
that I got from Jim Cole
I am very pleased (I had the benifit of checking speeds just before the
change, so the info is relatively accurate and at the same outside
temperature)
stall speed dropped from 50 mph to 47 at slow flight attitude and cruise at
2400 increased from 108 to 111mph using the gps two directions parallel to
the runway
climb is more difficult to determine because it is so weight sensitive but I
was seeing 1800fpm steady
control near the ground is excellent
So that 2 extra ft of wing certainly has some effect bob fisher

Wing tips
Hi Everyone,
I am looking into making fiberglass parts for the rebel with the help of Ken
Fickett, designer and builder of three flying composite aircraft. He owns a boat
building and manufacturing business, but has a passion for aviation and is an
expert in composites. For those interested, his boat building web site is
http://www.mirage-mfg.com/index.html.
I will be building wing tips first, either hoerner or droop with the rudder and
elevator tips as well. I was planning on building other parts, such as doors and
assorted fairings later. Anyone interested in a set of tips please contact me
via email - robert.karow@gmail.com, or phone (352)284-9574. I figure $350
before shipping for the first 10 people to contact me.
These will be the highest quality and be delivered quickly. Ken Ficketts has
been around in EAA since the 70's and was designer(partner)/builder of the
Aero Mirage TC2, Team Tango and Foxtrot aircraft
http://www.teamtango.com. we should be able to expect a few days wait for
an order to ship, on the outside.
