You might want to ask him if he has completed all the "Ontario
Mods"?

Well, I went and visited the rebel tonight. The fella
working on it pretty
much has everything done except a lot of minor things
throughout the
aircraft. He did a great job with a lot of attention
to detail.

Some of the things he has done that I liked:

Electric flaps
All ADs complied with even though he was not building
the airplane for floats.
Nice custome windshield installation. mus more
streamlined and secure.
Brand new LY O-320 on the nose with terrific air ducting.
Some nice mods to the panel that allow more room.
Heavier duty tail wheel assembly.

It seemed that whereever he could, he paid attention
to detail. Like the
landing gear are polished to a chrome shine.

If we can work out the details, I'm going to buy it.
When I finish it, I'm
also going to let him fly it.

I'm pumped.

Now if I can figure out how to raise the money.

Jim!

If you search the archive files on the DCSOL site, you'll find
lots of discussion about these, but not sure either if there is a
complete consolidated list somewhere. Here is an old email that
lists many mods, some of which are builders choice type but also
includes many of the Ont mods.

I have tried to do a search for the "Ontario Mod" but come up
with very
little. So I stated searching for mods and have listed what I
have found
below. I agree that it would be of great help if all the mods
that have
been done where in one location. This would help new builders
like
myself gain from the knowledge of more experience builders.

-Irish Field Aviation Firewall Reinforcing Plates

-MAM "Float Fix" Channel

-Mckenzies STOL Mod

-Spring Gear Mod skin layering - Rebel

-Welded alum tank mod

-Aileron spade mod

-The Fus-30 doubler, at the tail post to tail spring bulkhead
area.

-Tail Wheel Mod

-Bungee gear pivot mod

-Door mod

-Elevator Skin-rib reinforce outer edge

-Die Spring Gear

-Cabin Floor Stiffeners

-Fife Hoerner wing tips

-The only other things you'll need are 4 or 5 extra ST-28's, and
one
extra FUS-30 - these are needed for "The Ontario Mods"

-There's an extra fitting that goes inside the float
bulkhead that MAY be included now (it was on the Elites)

-Float Fix Doubler slipped under Fus-9

-Corner Wraps

Bob Patterson

Looking at a 90% completed Rebel

Post by Bob Patterson » Sat Feb 18, 2012 10:59 am

Hi Jim !

Raises a few questions .....

Not to be a wet blanket, but things you should check/ know about ...

Did he install the float fittings ?? (Add strength )
Is the firewall moved back 3" ?? (old recommendation for O-320)
Is there a steel shelf under the front of that windshield ?
(desireable for fire protection)
Windshield mod suggests it might be a low serial # -
(orig. had Lexan windshield - and lots of later mods.)
Panel mods - the panel is structural ! Size of holes could be critical !
Are there 'stops' for those flaps - max down is only 18 degrees !
Any provision for negative flap ?? (if not, you lose cruise speed,
and have a bouncier ride !)
Heavy tailwheel - (NOT a Maule, we hope - they shimmy !)
Polished gear - (spring gear ?? - make sure it has ALL the beef-ups !!)
If not all the Ontario Mods, does he at least have the FUS-30 doubler ??
(if not, you have a bit of work ahead ...)

Drop me a note offline, at: beep@sympatico.ca, or phone
(905) 457-5238 9 am -10 pm 7 days, if you want to kick around
suggestions.

Hi Bob. Thanks for the questions. I will try to answer what I know ans ask
him the rest.

-> Did he install the float fittings ?? (Add strength )
Yes he did.

-> Is the firewall moved back 3" ?? (old recommendation for O-320)
Yes, per the recommendations

-> Is there a steel shelf under the front of that windshield ?
-> (desireable for fire protection)
Yes

-> Windshield mod suggests it might be a low serial # -
-> (orig. had Lexan windshield - and lots of later mods.)
It is serial number 572. I'm not sure how old that makes it??

-> Panel mods - the panel is structural ! Size of holes could be
critical ! The panel mods look to be about like everyone elses.

-> Are there 'stops' for those flaps - max down is only 18 degrees !
I do not know, but will ask

-> Any provision for negative flap ?? (if not, you lose cruise speed,
-> and have a bouncier ride !)
I believ the flaps are electric and both ways, but will ask about that one
too.

-> Heavy tailwheel - (NOT a Maule, we hope - they shimmy !)
No, I found out later by reading here that he has done the fuse 30 mod. I
did not know what that was when I was looking at it.

-> Polished gear - (spring gear ?? - make sure it has ALL the beef-
ups !!)
Spring gear. I will research the beef ups.

-> If not all the Ontario Mods, does he at least have the FUS-30
doubler ??
I will have to ask what all modes he has done. The fuse 30 for sure though.

I will give you a shout.

THanks again

Jim!
