Couple questions.

Hi Keith !

Welllll - you almost get that effect with the standard window
setup ! It's a large window, and swings down out of the way, leaving
an opening that's plenty large enough to jump out of if you've just
flipped on your back in the water ! and, of course, you can fly
with it open, for that beezy feeling !

Never had a problem with door sag ! The thing I didn't like
about the clamshell - and the swing-up doors - is that the top piece
always ends up hitting my head, or just being in the way when you
don't want it. The latches never seem to hold them, or you have to
fiddle too much to keep them up. ...... but - it's YOUR Rebel and
YOUR choice !! That's what makes homebuilding so popular - you can
have it YOUR WAY !!! :-)

Thanks for the comments on the prop spacer. I had to chuckle when I read your
comments on the "narrowing seat phenomenon" with lexan doors. I can attest,
It's true!!! I often end up stuffing my jacked between the sear and lexan on
long trips with my Kitfox.

I left the aluminum on the Rebel doors.

not think that you could fly with them open. When I run mine up on the
ground past about 1200 or so, they come out of the latch and flop up. Based
on that, I didn't think that they would stay down in flight?

Also, is it OK to fly the Rebel with the doors completely off?

and, of course, you can fly

with it open, for that beezy feeling !

I've flown lots of times with my windows open. The plane cruises just fine
but when I slow for landing the window shakes like crazy. I just make sure
I close the window while on downwind

Hi Walter !

It certainly IS OK to fly with the doors off - but VERY breezy !
The windows WILL stay open in flight, but are sensitive to angle of
attack. The latches will NOT hold them open in the fully down position -
but they WILL float at about a 45 degree angle down, and this is a
perfectly safe way to keep cool when you're flying low on those
really hot days. Surprisingly, you'll be able to unfold and read a
map inside, even with the windows open ! We usually just open one
at a time ... Excellent for photography - that's why the Rebels
are in high demand at airshows !!

I always close the windows for takeoff and landing, because,
if the angle of attack changes, or there's a gust, they will SLAM
closed, and can pinch your elbow if it's hanging over the hinge !! :-)

So, what you guys are telling me is that I've been sweating my @#%$s off for
two summers now for nothing?!! OK, I will have to try opening a window in
flight, although this time of year I am more likely to get frost bite in
these parts.

Sounds like maybe this open window might also serve as a backup to the
airspeed indicator if it varies its position based on speed and angle of
attack. One of my hangar neighbours this summer had a wasp invade his pitot
tube, and he didn't notice it until after he took off. Needless to say, he
had some anxious moments until he got back on the ground.
