Bruce,

I found that the top reinforcing plates on the spring gear (that's on the
inside of the cabin) for the older kits (mine kit is #357 and was sold in 94)
are about 9" (about 34"?) shorter than the newer manual shows (43"?). That
makes them stop short of spanning the cabin floor from side to side. They
actually stop at the inside corner raps. The change was obviously meant to
distribute the load over a larger area. How wide are yours?

If you mean the the two plates that rivit to the carrythrough tubes, One is sculped out, Mine are short as well. I would like them to catch the outer two bolts that attach the spring gear. I think I will make some kind of change there.

Bruce,

Another difference will be the last delrin bearing on the elevator cables as
they exit the fuselage, at the rear. The newer kits use a pully, because of
the angle change. You can order one from MAM.

Check the spring on the tail wheel. If it is composite, you'll probably want
to change it to an aluminum or steel one.

The last bulkhead and the one the bolt on the tailspring go through has
several strips that build a saddle to reinforce it. Newer kits use an engine
mount (fus 86?). Your call.

Hi Bruce !

Wayne mounted the oil cooler on my latest Rebel on the firewall,
BELOW the witches hat, with the base parallel to the hat. There is a
3" SCAT tube off the back of the left side rear engine baffle that
leads to the cooler. This allows the warm air from the cooler to
dump out into the bottom of the cowl, directly above the opening.

The only thing I would add is some kind of flapper valve in
the SCAT tube, cockpit controlled, so I could close off the cooler
for winter operation - it's TOO good !

Something else that will help cooling is to wrap a strip of
aluminum from the firewall bottom, about 3" up, right out over the
bottom lip, and fasten it to the bottom of the fuselage. This helps
airflow out of the cowling tremendously !

Don't forget to make up a strip of rubber to seal the opening
from the cowl scoop to the air filter - air entering here will reverse-
pressurize the cowling. NOT "a good thing"(tm) !! ;-)

Bob,

Tell me more about this optional oil cooler location. I'm just now getting
ready to make my baffles.

Thanks for the info,
Not sure about the elevator cable pulleys as i havent got into the control stuff yet but it does have a steel tailwheel spring and a engine mt. instead of a saddle is installed to attach it to. The kit # is 479R from around 1995 so I think it is fairly up to date.
