You can fly in Canada with a 1942 B.P. Gas Station road map if you so
choose...

As for the air pistol.. what do you want to do, just piss the bear off
enough so he eats you quickly??

Thank you all for so many valuable feedback.

My indented route is, crossing the border via Bellingham/Abbortsford, make
one stop at Chilliwack for lunch, then Fraser River Canyon, Williams Lake,
Prince George, Mackenzie, Yukon Trench, Watson Lake, Whitehorse......then
Alaska.

Last year I took the same route, went all the way to Whitehorse then
return, it was in early Oct when I decided to return, the Wx was too cold
to proceed. I had VNC and Canada Flight Supplement with me, a pilot who I
met at Abbortsford told me, he uses different chart, that's the reason I
brought up the question. And thank you Ken, the circuit you described
confirmed with what I had heard at the local airport here, just wanna be
sure from you guys.

I am taking a full size Folding bike with me (w 26" mountain bike tires),
it fits well in Rebel.

Comes to think of it, what's the rule to have expired Charts in the
airplane and two 5 gallon fuel bottle when flying through Canada? Is air
pistol consider a hand gun in Canada? This substitutes the 22 caliber I
would like to have.

I think Drew was pointing Jay to the CFS (Canada Flight Supplement).
Jay the CFS is the "bible" of airport information with a listing for
every registered aerodrome in the country. Each listing has the
important info for that aerodrome, check this page:
http://www.navcanada.ca/navcanada.asp?c ... les/public
ations/aeronauticalinfoproducts/publications/cfs/default.xml
oProducts/Publications/CFS/CFS.pdf
You can download a listing of airport diagrams here:
http://www.navcanada.ca/NavCanada.asp?L ... Definition
Files\Publications\AeronauticalInfoProducts\CanadianAirportCharts\default.xm
l
I'll vote for VIP Pilot Centre too for sectionals & the CFS, they are
good & FAST!

[rebel-builders] Flying to Alaska

Post by Schmucker, Del » Sun Feb 19, 2012 6:23 pm

I think your Air pistol will have to have a muzzle velocity less than 500 feet per second or it will be fall under the same rules as a handgun in Canada.

See following link:

http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cfp-pcaf/fs-f ... ir-eng.htm

I would highly recommend that you make sure you are very familiar with the gun laws in Canada. They are very different than the U.S. you will not be allowed to carry a handgun. Look around the website I gave you to get more information on your long gun as well.

I carry a Henry AR7 USAir Force Survival .22 rifle in the Rebel. Receiver and barrel break down and store in the floating stock w/ 2 mags. Have it in the plane most of the time and sometimes carry a Savage .22/20ga. with Mag. slugs.

Options are endless. And the firearms have been a non-issues with border authorities when accompanied with appropriate documents.

HI Angus,

Your .22 only weights 2.5 lbs, fold down to 16", great survival equipment. The only question is, is it legal in Canada? I have heard the barrel needs to be 18.5" or longer.

Angus McKenzie

[rebel-builders] Flying to Alaska

Post by Angus McKenzie » Sun Feb 19, 2012 6:23 pm

18.5" min. barrel length requirement is for centre-fire rifles.

AR7 .22 is registered and legal. Needs good ammo to avoid jamming. I use CCI Stingers. Not real accurate but shoots a 1" group at 20yd's.

You should be able to find a good one for under $200

It's no bear-killer (that's a job for my compound bow) but it can whack small animals and birds and keep you in protein till SAR gets there.

HI Angus,

Your .22 only weights 2.5 lbs, fold down to 16", great survival equipment. The only question is, is it legal in Canada? I have heard the barrel needs to be 18.5" or longer.

Hi Angus,

Does the barrel need to be 18.5" or longer? I'll look into .22 rifle, good choice. How heavy is your .22 rifle?

I carry a Henry AR7 USAir Force Survival .22 rifle in the Rebel. Receiver and barrel break down and store in the floating stock w/ 2 mags. Have it in the plane most of the time and sometimes carry a Savage .22/20ga. with Mag. slugs.

Options are endless. And the firearms have been a non-issues with border authorities when accompanied with appropriate documents.

[rebel-builders] Flying to Alaska

Post by N.Smith » Sun Feb 19, 2012 6:23 pm

Fight for your freedom to carry them guys !!

In the UK we are now not even allowed to buy candy floss on a stick in case
we poke ourselves in the eye with the stick !!!

Just back from a week at the French Seaplane convention in Biscarrosse,
helping out and doing ground support for a Renegade on a single C172 float
that was doing pleasure flights.

Great fun event - and Jacquie (my partner) even managed to find me candy
floss on a stick .... life was good :-)

Just one accident... no need to explain what happened !!!
