Well I thought this monster had left for good, but it came back to haunt me
today... the digest mode got hung on one message and was sending it over and
over. I got 838 messages in my inbox, and I got 2 reports from members with
around 80, but I'm sure more than that went out. I caught and deleted over
110,000 files still in the queue... each message is comprised of 3 files, so
that's over 38,000 messages that got killed before they were sent out.
When this happened about a year ago I worked hard to get the software vender
to address the issue, but the final verdict was that what I was reporting
was not possible. I've addressed the issue again with as much documentation
and captured data as possible, but I really don't expect to get a positive
response from the vendor.
What I would propose doing is just eliminating the digest mode entirely.
The list even on active days does not generate so many emails as to swamp
anybody's inbox. I've never experienced this problem with the standard list
mode, only with digest mode. Does anyone object to changing from digest
mode to standard mode in order to ensure this doesn't happen anymore. Even
if it only happens once a year or so, once ever is entirely to often!
I have also received a couple of unsubscribe requests... by the time I
received these requests, all queued messages had been deleted, the offending
message removed, and any messages already sent are beyond recall... so I an
not going to process those few requests unless I hear from those same
members again that they still wish to be removed.
My suggestion is for all digest members to change to the regular list mode.
Please let me know how you feel about eliminating the digest mode entirely.
Thank you for your understanding, Mike

Digest problems
Digest problems
Getting rid of digest mode will probably be a good thing all
around, anyway, as replies to digest messages aren't always
well formatted, and it must be a pain for the responders to
cut & paste to answer. Maybe we'll get more replies from everybody
being in standard mode...
No problem here !
Thanks again Mike !!! Keep up the good work !! :-)
