Next Rebel Builders Meeting - Sept. 15th

Post by Bob Patterson » Fri Feb 17, 2012 10:24 pm

It's that time again !!! Next weekend !!!

Summer's over - back to BUILDING !!!

The next Rebel Builders of Ontario Meeting is Sunday, September 15th,
at 1:00 pm. at the RAA-TR Clubhouse at the far north end of Brampton Airport.
(North-West of Toronto, Ontario, Canada) (CNC3)

**********************************************
Our start time has been creeping later, so PLEASE try to BE HERE
for 1:00 - we plan to start NO LATER THAN 1:15, as there's LOTS to
cover !!
**********************************************

We plan to have a Q & A session on "How to keep your Rebel
project moving ahead" - tips & tricks to avoid procrastination !!
So bring YOUR methods, suggestions, etc., and we'll try to
get you some answers ! This was one of the topics the group wanted
to hear about, so please take notes !

We hope that some NEW Rebels will be able to fly in. There are FOUR
NEW Rebels now FLYING - it sure would be GREAT if they can fly in & tell
us ALL about how it feels to fly your own Rebel !! And THREE more now on
AMPHIBS - come on in and show them off !!
(Don't take chances, though - it's not THAT long a drive !
DO drive if you can't fly - we want to see YOU, too !)

There are many nice features on the Rebels that fly in, for those
who missed the last few meetings ...

We hope to see Dave Fife, along with his <lighted> Hoerner wing tips -
and we might finally see Curt on his new Murphy Amphibs - wearing a BIG smile !

Unfortunately, Angus McKenzie's Rebel is still in the shop for a
new engine, windshield, etc., but maybe he will drive over and bring some
brochures for his STOL kits. He tells me that the McKenzie STOL kits are now
available for the Super Rebel/Moose (about $2,700) - get your orders in ...
(The McKenzie STOL kit for the Rebel/Elite is still only $1,800 USD. )
Maybe Wayne O'Shea will bring down some goodies for us to buy ! Haven't
seen him for a while ..

Keep working on that Rebel, 'cause we're planning a "BIG ONE"
(Rebel Ramble that is !) for 2003 - the plan is to dip a toe in BOTH Oceans !!
(Well, alright - TWO out of the THREE Canadian oceans ! The other one
is just toooo cold !! :-) )
Think about 'airplane pooling', renting, or maybe block time .....
beg or borrow a 'plane, but come along !! You don't want to miss THIS ONE !!!
More details at the meeting ....

We'll also have some new guests & Rebel builders, and another draw
for Rebel T-Shirts, or Rebel Coffee Mugs, Rebel hats etc. ....
Should be an interesting meeting !

Phone us for updates or directions - (905) 457-5238.

Hope to see you all there ! (There will be some more Super Rebel/
Moose builders, too !!!) There is a lot of experience to share ...

Please put on your thinking caps & bring your 'subjects'...
It has been suggested that we pick one key topic for each meeting,
far enough ahead that builders can round up articles, photos, and
pieces to show - soooooo .... we need your suggestions for topics
for the next meeting.

Coming in October - a Fabric Covering Session ! Details at
the meeting...

If you are driving in from a long distance, try to get here
on Saturday afternoon - we can do a demo flight in the Rebel, and
then enjoy the RAA-TR Fall Corn Roast in the evening !! There will
be sausages/hot dogs, and possibly other delicacies, as well as corn ! :-)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Free coke, spring water, coffee & donuts, as usual - everyone welcome !
(Even if you don't have a Rebel <yet> !) ;-)

We'll try to have bagels, cream cheese, & jam, too !!

.....bobp & Anna

---------------------------------------------------------------------

p.s. Please bring a folding lawn chair, as seating might be short -
we're expecting a crowd for this one !

p.p.s. We usually go out for pizza & beer after the meeting - all welcome !

THANKS !

PPPPS !!

Wayne G. O'Shea

Next Rebel Builders Meeting - Sept. 15th

Post by Wayne G. O'Shea » Fri Feb 17, 2012 10:24 pm

Sorry, I just saw you last Wednesday Bob, you probably can't handle
another
get together in only 10 days!!!

SERIOUSLY, I have company coming on Saturday the14th, so most likely will
be
unable to attend unless their plans are to leave first thing Sunday
morning.
Will try my darndess to convince them that this is a good plan and then
scramble down to CNC3 with some supplies and an open ear to hear "how to
keep going on your project". Stupid me took 3 (read about 5) weeks off
this
summer, getting so laid back that I can't seem to get my ass back in gear.
As you saw when you were up here, Bob, the floats are split and rejoined
(cleco's) with the extra 21" thrown into them but I can't get up the
gumption to take them all apart again, debur/ seal/ reassemble and rivet.

Don't worry Ron........ the truck is supposed to be here Wednesday with my
aluminum order, so I can get at those skis for you before the snow
flies!!!
FWIW.....That easy to deal with Atlas Ideal Metals in Brampton is history.
Bought out/closed up in Brampton, over the last year or so I am told, and
now only operating out of the Etobicoke - West Mall address BUT as
Integris
Metals (and they seem to be absolute morons). Took a week and a half to
get
a quote (when I told them to just ship the stuff in the first place
without
even asking for pricing) and then after that mess was straightened out,
and
I taught the guy how to calculate the weight of a sheet for correct
pricing
(as he had $288 for a sheet of .025), it took another 3 days to put the
order together. By then another salesman had locked up half the stuff I
wanted, for another customer, so I became out of luck on stuff that I
should
have already had delivered in this time frame. Enough whining, if I ever
get
the stuff I can't complain about the pricing that I got on the light
.020/.025/.032 sheets (that I helped the guy figure the weights out
on!!)........ $50, $53 and $56 CANADIAN respectively, per 4' x 12' sheet!!
Guess I should have bought at least 100 sheets of .032 at that price
(instead of only 6), since it should be 60% more than the .020 (or about
$80/sheet minimum, with last time I bought being $96 per)

Cheers,
Wayne
