I had an interesting experience with corrosion lately. My Shop air conditioner a one ton wall unit drain blocked. This meant the condensation dripped into the shop onto my secondary work bench. With the temps starting to pick up over here and the humidity the
result was a near constant drip. As luck would have it I out of town for a couple of days. In this time my gear drag brace SB and SR3500 rear spar fittings were saturated. The spar fittings had been pre primed but not 100% and I had a little rust show. The dr
ag
fitting which I removed during the 3500 upgrade was unprotected and completely COVERED IN A SCALY RUST. I believe these are made from 4130 and was quite surprised how quickly they built up a layer of rust. It may also be due to the high salt in the air that w
as
washed into the shop. The 6061 that was also wet was unaffected but it goes to show the importance of getting a good prime on the steel parts.
BTW is the drag brace SB still required after doing the 3500 gear box upgrade?
