Corrosion (or should I say lack of!)

Hi Everyone!

Just thought I would upload this shot of serial #053's inner floor area (to
Rebel Fuselage). I have it ripped apart for repairs and you would swear it
was just built yesterday based on the shine coming off all that 6061. It
wasn't thought. That floor went together in late 1991/early '92 and it flew
in '93. Has been stored outside for 9+ years and there wasn't even any
condensation drains in the outer floor panel. We aren't in salt air here, in
Ontario, but definitely go through the extremities of temperature and
humidity fluctuations.

Just thought you might be interested! Especially those that have gone to the
n'th degree to corrosion proof , and add weight to, your birds.

Your observations confirm my use of 6061 and 5086 alu on the pilot houses of the Tug fleet I Managed. After 15 to 20 years service in the North Pacific ( not painted ) they still look all most new. That's the reason my Rebel is not painted on the outside, just waxed.

Steve, I have an unpainted Rebel and the aluminum is quite dirty. I was thinking of using some type of wheel cleaner, foam type that you just spray on and hose off and maybe use a brush for the heavier soiled spots. Have you used any other type of cleaner and what type of wax are you using. Are you using a polisher to apply or buff your wax?

Once I have cleaned it, I guess a good waxing will make it shine and protect it.

P.S. I assume your controls are fabric, do you wax this area also? Is there something I can use to restore fabric also, it's going on ten years and starting to crack, especially on the high sides.
