How goes the battle?
I was just about to put in an order to ACS for some hardware and noticed
that the one lug anchor nuts with an elastic-insert which look like the ones
(8) that you used for the horizontal stab brackets (thanks for posting the
picture) ARE $3.00 each OUCH! that's $24 for 8 anchor nuts.
Questions:
Do you know of a less expensive source?
Can the K2000 All Metal ($0.26 ) be substituted?

Hi Don! You asked so you know I'm going to whine now!! Not getting allot
accomplished as I am afraid to mix any epoxy up and get into a 6 hours
closing session on either the tail section or the stab (both are deburred
ready to go) as my 3500 Amphib Floats left Chilliwack on Thursday night
(along with my MAM parts, some Kehler skis and a bunch of other stuff). I
have no idea where the truck is or when it is supposed to arrive. The "guys"
I bought the floats from built them into the front 24' of the trailer,
instead of building crates as was the plan. Crates would have been an easy
offload at my plastics plants loading dock, but instead now I have to
scramble with a minutes notice to get over there and start unscrewing what
is apparently about 25 sheets of plywood and various lumber so I can roll
them out. I have all the tools, etc that I think I will need ready in my
truck, but I hope the truck driver isn't in a rush to leave town!
As for the anchor nuts I used, no they are not elastic anchors. Good quality
elastics would be fine, but it just happened that the only 1/4 x 28 anchor
nuts I have (amongst my 100,000 pc + inventory of anchor nuts) are an
aluminum anodized case the holds an AN363 steel lock nut that floats in the
case (up and down - not side to side). These worked great! I am always
hesitant to use the "stamped" anchor nuts like the K2000's for structural
stuff. They are probably alright, but just don't seem to have a comfortable
(for me) thread engagement.
I uploaded a close up of the anchor nuts to the SR-Fuselage section in case
anyone is curious what the #$#* I'm talking about. I had never seen anything
like them, before I bought all this stuff either, and I don't imagine you
can easily find them anywhere else. Unfortunately I have to get $3 each for
them also (plus mailing costs), BUT THOSE ARE LOUSY CDN DOLLARS, so only
about $1.90 US each. They probably cost the original purchaser $10 each in
the 70's!

I have found that Freeman Aviation, www.freemanaviation.com, phone
770-227-2602, in Griffin GA is a reasonable (by aircraft standards) place
to get some of the less common hardware. Their catalog lists AN366 nylon
insert nutplates at $1.56 for 10-32. Their 2 lug, floating 10-32 are $.29
each. They have dimpled nutplates as well in many sizes/types that I use
so cover plates lie flat.
