Hi Bob
When I was talking to you (after ordering the wing kit), you mention
that someone had come up with a homemade air breathing system that they used
when spraying the epoxy primer. I cannot remember the name of the person you
said. Could you let me know? Another question do you know the min temperture
that you can spray on the epoxy primer?

I made a fresh air system which is fairly simple and effective, I came up with
the idea after using my shop vac for a while. That worked out well but
eventually I got some things in the shop vac that I didn't want to breathe....

I bought a central vac blower at Princess Auto for about $CDN30.00 and built a
plywood box to house it. The basics are; put a big filter (a big ShopVac filter
works fine) on the inlet side and attach some suitable ABS pipe fittings on the
blower outlet and connect your air line to this.

You will want to allow some bleed off on the outlet to not overload the blower
and I used this to blow air on the motor to keep it cool I ran this at about a
50% ratio. One big thing to remember, some of these blowers run the blower
output past the motor or cool it with the intake flow which can pick up ozone
and carbon dust from the brushes, you want to avoid this at all costs for health
reasons.

All said this cost me about $40 or so since I used some of the shipping crate
for the box!

FWIW when I investigated this, I concluded that an organic vapour
(charcoal) filter was fine for this and a lot more convenient. Of course
you definately absolutely must use a fresh air supply for isocyanate
cured polyurethanes. A filter won't help for the toxic component of that
stuff. None of the epoxy primers that I looked at had those ingredients
though.

If possible some pictures would be of great help. Did you attach the line
to a mask? I remember seeing something like that in one of the aviation mags
but can't remember which mag it was. All I can remember is they removed one
of the filters in the mask an attach a line to it.

Hi Gary

I am planning to put some pictures of the blower on the web site of our Elite
project when I get it put together, enough to give a good idea of the concept &
how it was put together. I'll let you and the group know when it is up in at
least Beta quality, I am planning on that in the next couple of weeks. If you
need details sooner let me know and I will see about getting some pictures to
you.

I have used the cannister type mask and I don't particularly like having it
strapped to my face with or without a hose attached so we built something more
like a hood using a grinding face shield (inexpensive at Canadian Tire or an
automotive hardware store) as the window and semi-permeable fabric for the
rest. As long as you have a positive inside pressure or air flow it achieves
the purpose. My choice but it is what I like. The official version can be
bought for a price.
