I know that this topic has been covered many times, but it seems lately that the prop of choice has shifted away from the 3 blade Warp towards the
Sensenich. Are the cracking problems becoming that common and if so does anyone have any current info, ideas, comments from Warp Drive ?
I have an Elite and will be mounting an 0-320 150 -160 HP
Hope to need a prop in about 60-90 days
Any and all input will be appreciated.

Hi Keith, Bob with Rebel "652" here again. I had a feeling ( or maybe common sense) that with my 160 HP O320 I would need the heavy Sensenich, and it proved out very well. This summer we had a fellow fly in to St.Catharines flying an O320 160HP behind a "plastic prop" for over four years with out any problems. His only comment was, if the engine started running rough after pulling carb heat to check for ice, it better clear up quick as with the light prop, he has had it stop quick on several occasions. I guess that is why mine runs so smooth-good flywheel action with the extra weight.-for what its worth.

Go back and look at post # 3676 and also I will repost the weight differences as I measured them. I read somewhere that Warp Drive will not sell you one of their props if you are going to use it on a Lycoming. By the time you are done screwing around with the plastic props you will spend as much $$ as the Sensenich. This would include the $400 cost for the dampener. Also if you need the 14" spinner I would consider Van's 13" model. The MAC spinner is really 13" dia and the bulkheads are not drilled. This will cause you a lot of extra work and now we are hearing that the front bulkhead of the MAC spinner will not fit without a 1/2" spacer plate and longer bolts. Great fun huh? Another Murphy mine. There as many with this project as there are land mines in Afganistan.

Bruce,
I finally weighed the prop parts. I used an uncalibrated digital weighing
scale.
74DM7S8-0-56 prop = 34 #
2"spacer = 4 1/2 #
spinner & bulkheads = 5 #
for a total of 44 1/2 #
I weighed the WD 2" spacer = 5#,
UHS 12 " spinner with crush plates = 3 1/2 #
and the prop (72" sq tips w/HP hub)I do not have but it was reported
to be 15 #
now add the reported 13 # dampener and you come up with a total of 36 1/2 #
A difference of 8 lbs.
If anyone has a different set of numbers I would like to see where the
differences are.

I am also thinking of getting a Sensenich as a second prop to my Warp Drive, and was wondering if I can use the same 2 " spacer for my Warp Drive with the Sensenich?

Keith,

Last time I talked with Warp Drive, at AirVenture this summer, They were not
selling Warp Drives for Lycoming installation because of the frequent
cracking problems that were being experienced.

Rick D,

You have it right. I came up with almost identical numbers for prop weight
comparisons. I will note that Warp Drive will not even consider their props
on Lycoming's anymore, even with the extra weight of that Dampener.
