On the fairleads you should look at solid lubricated Nylon or one of the
lubricated UHMW Polyethelynes (like Tivar 88) for the material, the Teflon is so
soft that it will wear quickly. The SL Nylon or UHMW SL have better than
average friction properties and are tailored for abrasion resistance so they are
well suited for the fairlead application. Coefficient of friction for the
materials are PTFE .05, Tivar 88, .08, SL Nylon .13 vs .35 for general purpose
Nylon or wear resistant Nylon. Relative wear is: Tivar 88, 8, SL Nylon, 38,
PTFE, 78. PTFE is about 5x the cost of Tivar 88 and 2.5x the SL Nylon.

lines and cables. After confirmation from Brian Godden at MAM that my plan
was sound I have begun running fuel lines down the inside of the rear door
posts and under the floor where they will lead to individual fuel drains,
left and right, then on to separate fuel boost pumps, then to a
left/right/both fuel selector on the floor somewhere, then to the gascolator
on the firewall, then to the carb. I plan to get a semi-ganged switch like
the master/alternator switches you see in some airplanes that will make it
easy to select both boost pumps simultaneously or either one individually if
I want. I know this adds a small level of complication but I like the
redundancy for getting fuel to the engine and the ability to blow a vapor
lock out if it occurs. I will still have an engine driven fuel pump and the
boost pumps will only be for takeoffs and landings, in case the engine
driven pump fails, and to help deal with vapor lock. Remember, I'm using a
Chevy V8 and a four barrel carb when considering this. Throttle response is
improved with increased pressure at the carb (up to a point) and I have no
idea whether gravity feed from an SR is enough for an automotive carb.

I would really like to put the fuel selector between the two inner shear
webs ahead of the gear torsion box but I don't think there will be room
between them. The next best spot would be between the seats but the dang
elevator push/pull rod and rudder cables are in there. Any suggestions?

I found some nifty plastic rings that snap into holes of various sizes that
would be perfect for cable fairleads at the hardware store. The only
fairleads I was provided with my kit require that an angle be mounted at
each location since they mount 90 degrees to the cable. I would much rather
have the fairlead mount right on the same surface as the hole and the
plastic rings are easy. Bad idea to use these plastic rings? My other idea
was to just get some blocks of teflon to drill three holes in. One big hole
for the cable and two small holes for rivets to hold the block in place. I
can't believe something like the teflon block for cable fairleads is not
commercially available. Anybody seen anything like this?
