Cable fairings

Post by Mike Kimball » Fri Feb 17, 2012 9:22 pm

I saw what appeared to be aluminum cable fairings where the rudder cables
exit the tailcone on Chris Gill's Super Rebel in Anchorage and thought they
were a nice touch. I found plastic ones at Aircraft Spruce (only $4.95 for
the pair) but would much prefer aluminum. Anyone know where you can get
aluminum ones? (Hopefully, Chris is still reading list messages even though
he isn't building anymore. He's where I want to be! Up in the air in his
SR!)

Dear Mike,

Avery Tools (www.averytools.com 800-652-8379) sells .025 aluminum fairings for
the RV series (Part #10725 US$12 for set of three). These are great folks and
their tool catalog is a great resource.

Cable fairings

Post by Rick DeCiero » Fri Feb 17, 2012 9:22 pm

Mike,
I had bought those plastic ones but they do not have enough flange material
around the edge to cover the slots that I cut. I measured the inside dimensions
of the plastic and cut a pine block to fit. Next step was to bend a piece of
3003 alum around the wood block and then trim the oversize flange to fit my
airframe. It looks real nice and should give good service. If Santa brings a
digital camera I'll post some pics to the site.

Thanks. I just ordered two sets. One for me and one as a Christmas present
for the other SR builder here in Fairbanks.
