Subject: Subaru questions
Joel,
A couple questions on your conversion. How much ya got invested in it?
Well, Lets see what I can remember:
Long block - $1000
Carbs - $600
ignition system - $500
Dynafocal mount - ~$450 - from Murphy
13" X 40" Lathe - $2700 - for making psru parts
Milling machine - $1700 - for making psru parts
tooling/rotory table etc. - $600 - for making psru parts
Pulleys - $600 - psru parts I couldn't make
Engine instrumentation - VDO guages - $250
Misc material aluminum/steel stock ~$300
lots of time - ???
So it looks like roughly $8700us. But I got a fairly well equiped machine
shop out of the deal! I've done a lot of work on the milling machine - I
put zero backlash ball screws in it and converted it to CNC. I can't wait
to try it out on my instrument panel!
Here are some pictures of my engine:

Did ya do anything internally to the engine(head work ect.)? I am working
on a >project that I bought started and it came with all the FWF stuff for
the Lyc. but I am >getting frustrated at the prices they want for one these
days. The price for a Subaru >ready to bolt on is also a bit high and
thought if I could convert a Subaru myself for >$6~8 thou. It would be
better than a run out Lyc for the same price.
No I've not done anything inside the engine. I did have the oil pan off to
install a threaded bung for the temperature guage but thats it. It should
put out around 130 hp. If I need more I'll put in some high performance
cams that should get it up to 160hp.
