Float main gear shock absorbers for Murphy 1800 amphibs

My float mounting is now complete, and was planning to fly it this weekend,
except I don't like how my gear sits. The shock absorbers consist of little
green rubber washers sandwiched between metal ones. With the whole aircraft
weight now on the wheels, the shocks absorbers compress to their maximum
travel. This is without it being fully loaded, but empty except for some
fuel. The washers just seem to squish out the sides between the metal ones,
and don't seem to do the job from what I can tell. With the shock travel
down at the bottom, I only have about 3 inches of clearance between the
float and the ground, too, which seems a little close to me.

What have other float flyers experienced? Is this acceptable? Are their
replacement washers or other shock absorber material that is more firm?

Hi Walt,
My experience is with the yellow colored "pucks", and the concave washers. I started with 9 pucks and no travel and ended up with 11 and it's just off the top with 35 gal of fuel. Guys have added washers so you had one facing up and down between every puck
so tht they didn't squish out. I haven't done that yet. I do feel that I have sufficient travel now.
You gotta have some travel. good luck with the rest.

Thanks Curt. I just found out yesterday about these cupped or concave
washers. My floats were pre-assembled in the Philippines and came with 10
rubber pucks and flat metal washers in between. I spoke to MAM today, but
unfortunately they were out of stock on the new ones, so will have to wait
until I get the right ones. That's the last thing holding me up right now
from my first test flight on the floats. Have you been out on the water yet
with yours?
