Bert,
Just had another thought or 2 ...

For more comfort, cut long, narrow triangular pieces of the
stiffer foam & glue them (contact cement) onto the seat base & back
on the edges. Gives a slope into the center. Then glue the softer foam
on top. This will give you additional support at the sides, helping to keep
you centered on the seat, instead of sliding off the sides.

Get the seat bottom (firm stuff) OVERSIZE - about 1/2" extra on
the sides, and an inch or TWO on the front. The extra support under the
thighs makes a BIG difference on long flights !! Cut the firm foam for
the seat bottom so it slopes to the rear, about an inch or 2 lower at
the back. Electric carving knives are excellent for sculpting the foam !!

Another source - you CAN buy the foam part of automotive seats
from jobbers, or wreckers. I think the original bench seat in the back
of the Super Rebel was lifted complete from a MAZDA back seat !!
