Caterpillar Grommet?

Post by hibbs » Fri Feb 17, 2012 8:40 pm

Anyone know where I can get some Caterpillar Grommet for .020 to .040?
The local electronics store does not have it, neither does Radio Shack,
Home Depot, Home Base, etc.

Caterpillar Grommet?

Is this the stuff that you are looking for? (See picture at the link below:- )

http://members.home.net/dqualley/edgestrip.jpg

How much are you looking for.. I have a couple 12" lengths that I could part with if
that's all you need.

I bought it at Boeing Surplus in Seattle a few months back.. I'm actually heading back
down there tomorrow, I'll see if they still have any. If they do, I'll buy a bunch of
it.. I think they charged $10/lb for it, pretty cheap!

Caterpillar Grommet?

Post by hibbs » Fri Feb 17, 2012 8:40 pm

Lonnie, it is a grommet for odd shaped holes. If you are running
through a bulkhead at something other than 90 degrees, the standard
rubber (round) grommets won't work. See the photo from Dave for an
example (http://members.home.net/dqualley/edgestrip.jpg).

Caterpillar Grommet?

Scott you might try an electrical wholesaler. I think my local home depot
has them but they're somewhere in those little bins of parts in the
nut+bolt aisle

Caterpillar Grommet?

Scott,
Go to the McmasterCarr website and search for grommets and grommet strips. If you can
get one of their catalogs you will find it very educational. They are located in NJ and I
use them frequently. There is no minimun charge and their shipping rates are very
reasonable.

Scott

You can get this material from any big electronic component distributor, I am not sure by
your address if you are in Canada or the States (or ???) but up here we have Electrosonic,
Future and others. There is a big one in the states called Mouser isn't there? I think the
Jim Weir mentions them in his articles in Kit Planes.

There are local sales outlets for the big distributors that you can find in the yellow pages
under electronic parts, wholesale. They are listed that way to weed out the people who want
their stereo fixed etc.
