Garry, weren't you having trouble with a similar leak? Can't remember how
you fixed yours.
I got talked into taking apart my rear main gear cylinders on the floats to
upgrade the O-rings and re-machine the grooves (plus adding a 2nd one) on
the front hydraulic fittings. I had a leak on one a couple years, and fixed
it with a new O-ring. Mine were not actually leaking right now. But Dennis
(the machinist) decided to do his, and so while he had his CNC programmed
and set up to do them, I decided to take advantage of the opportunity.
Luckily, the weather has been warm, as it is not fun working through those
access covers to take apart your cylinders. Anyway, got them back together
yesterday, so now just have to get the air worked out of the lines. Will do
that today. And I better not find any leaks now....
And just got my medical yesterday (yahoo, I passed) again, too, so am good
with that for another 2 years.

Sounds similar. Pilots side, outboard of wheelwell. Will take on ~2 gallons
overnight. Must be at the very bottom of the float because all the water
drains if left on land. There is evidence of several previous attempts at
fixing, but I think, as you suspect that the gear "works" it a bit when on
wheels,and re-opens whatever is leaking. Now that I know it has leaked, and
can leak, I'd like to be able to pump out all compartments.
As you recall, I'm quite heavy, and tend to fly "near gross" . I'd rather
have an extra 20 lbs of fuel, than water.

John, which small compartment is leaking? I have one, too, on the
right float by the main gear. I think it is coming from the gearsealant-du-jour is.I have been meaning to put a doubler in there, one of these years, to
strengthen it, as some others here have done. But for now I just let
it drain into my main compartment through the drilled hole. It is not
a big leak, maybe a couple cups in a day sitting on the water. All my
other compartments are still tight.

Wayne, you are 100% right...I should solve the leak problem. But
better men than I have tried, and failed, or at least it came back.
Eventually the compartment will be filled with pro-seal or whatever theSome future industrial archeologist will be able to document the
trends in sealant evolution on the basis of my one small compartment.
It is only the one that leaks.
In the meantime, I want to be able to pump them out and be sure.
As mentioned in the previous post, they can be set up to drain into
neighbouring compartments, but that allows a small leak in a small
compartment to flood a big compartment. Not ideal either.
