Craig
My engine weight with a Marcotte M200 psru matches the Lycoming 0-320
fairly closely. After some problems at 170 hours I'm now using a newer
(second generation?) M300 which is overkill and heavier. 420 hours on
the engine now. A newer M200 would be optimum. I do run an oil filter on
the gear oil. I have a couple of posts in the archives and a couple of
articles in Contact magazine with more of the story. Love the engine.

I burn 16 to 17 liters per hour on wheels and 20 on amphibs and cruise
80 to 85 knots. Bear in mind that mission weight is the issue and I
carry and burn considerably less fuel than a Lycoming for the same
mission. Of course I also cruise relatively slowly.

Hi Ken,

Does your engine weight include the PSRU? If so, which eng and gear
unit did you use? Thanks, Craig

You will find that the consensus here is to leave the firewall where

Fundamentally I agree with Daryl Murphy though. My soob weighs about
the same as an 0-320 and I'm very glad I moved the firewall back. Lots
of discussion in the archives. It is more work than it might appear.
Slightly less visibility as it moves the pedals and seats back as
well. However on wheels I still find it a challenge to get the tail
down on 3 point landings. On amphibs (which moves the cg farther
forward) I find the nose tends to dig in after touchdown when landing
without a headwind. So I also agree with those who suggest shortening
all the float struts and spreader bars from what the manual says. Prop
spray has never been an issue for me.

If you neglect minor structural advantages though, moving the battery
to the tail will move the cg farther than moving the firewall back!!!

My batteries are unusually small and light but they are on the
backside of the firewall where they theoretically reduce ground
looping tendencies compared to aft mounting. EVERYTHING is a
compromise of something.
