[rebel-builders] Super Rebel Roll Servo Placement

Hi Jerry,

I uploaded a couple photos to the Files area, in the 112. S/M-Control
Systems area, showing the installation of roll and pitch servos in the Moose
built for the owner of Dynon. Dynon technical support sent these to me. I
plan on using the Dynon Skyview system and servos. You might be able to do
something similar with a Tru-Trak servo.

The roll servo is mounted on the roof and is the hi-torque SV52 push-pull
version of the servo. I think the servo will also fit between the two roof
channels, about mid-way back and above the black flap push-pull tube. This
would be a less exposed area for the servo. Also in the files are photos of
the aileron servo mounted at the bottom near the control column. This is a
elegant solution if the servo will fit (the Dynon is too big). The servo
might also fit in the wings but I don't know of anyone who has done that.

There is also a photo of the pitch servo. This is a SV52C hi-torque capstan
version of the servo mounted in the tailcone and attaching to the elevator
cables.

I forgot to mention (Tim's posted reminded) that I'm just now mounting
my TT roll servo at the pilot's left foot area, to connect to the
outer lobe of the first bell crank off the (Rebel) control column. I
came up with a bunch of reasons not to do it elsewhere. One was the
desire to tie into the controls before the servo linkage would have to
account for flaperon movement as well as the aileron roll action.

It will be a somewhat snug fit, vis-a-vis pilot foot space, and
require a Hi-Lok bolt

the bell crank mounting bracket, but it should work OK. Will report
w/photos before long.

connecting rod end to go on the same (bottom) side of the bell crank
as the push-pull tube, because the A/P rod would exert even greater
leverage against the hole in the bell crank lobe -- potentially
wearing the hole -- so the A/P rod end will go on top of the bell
crank lobe. There's not much room there, hence the need for a
thin-headed -4 Hi-Lok bolt to maintain clearance from the bell crank
mounting bracket just above. A rod end, AN4 bolt head and a capture
washer wouldn't quite fit.

I look forward to further details on your install, especially the fabrication of the
bracket to support the servo. I hope it won't need to be as complex as your
landing light support brackets....:)

The TruTrak A/P roll servo, connecting to the first aileron control
bell crank, is finally installed. Haven't flown it yet, but it's
operating well on the ground. Not to worry, Rob, although the
clearances in all four or five dimensions (or so it seemed) were
tight, the servo mount is not (quite) as complex as the landing light
brackets. ;-) There's even still plenty of room for my clodhoppers.
