Unfortunately, all of the changes were not necessarily improvements.
If you look at those bellcranks, you'll see that someone lengthened
the forward arm .... supposedly to reduce stick loads. This caused
the stick to move much farther to get the same deflection - i.e. the
ailerons became LESS responsive. To compound this, the latest
mod lengthened the arm more, and now, you will find that, even at
maximum stick movement, the ailerons CANNOT meet the deflections
called for in the manual !! Several recent builders have found this !
The solution is to use the OLDER bellcrank !! Later builders didn't
have that, so they have had to modify the new bellcrank by shortening
that forward arm - re-drilling the end hole. You can't quite get the
original deflection that way, but it is much better.
If you use the new bellcrank, you will be disappointed with the
roll response .... You have likely seen a few comments from later
builders about that ...

As I build kit #56 I sometimes come across two somewhat similar parts with
somewhat similar part numbers. For example I have two control horns
somewhat similar in design and shape one labeled CC 47 and the other
labeled CC 47-1 or CC 47-2. My initial thought is that these are two
completely different parts, but in going through the plans I only see one
such part.. the new plans (2000+) with the label CC 47-2 and the older
plans (post 1998) with the label CC 47.
My questions are:
1. Has anyone else come across this, and which part did you use?
2. Am I correct in assuming that the newer part is an improvement on the
older one, and if so I should be using that one.
Once again I feel like I am building a 55, 56, 57 Chevy (aka, One Piece at
a Time, old John Cash song).
