Tail pipe sport

Post by Charlie Eubanks » Sun Feb 19, 2012 8:43 pm

Hello All
I have a Lyc. O-235 installed in my Rebel with a crossover exhaust system. I
would like to hear some pros/cons on supporting the tail pipes from the
engine as opposed to the firewall.

Tail pipe sport

Charlie,

Others with 'hands-on' experience will chime in, I'm sure, but everything I've
read suggests the most significant vibrations occur during engine start-up,
where the engine significantly rocks around on it's mount. Thus, it would
make the most sense to me to tie the exhaust stack to the engine if at all
possible. In fact, I was also under the impression that they are better off
unsupported than incorrectly supported by a structure in isolation from the
engine (unless, of course, you have included spring-loaded spherical ball joint
(s) in the exhaust system).

Interested in other's views on this...
