Viking engine

Post by Ralph Baker » Sun Feb 19, 2012 8:43 pm

Roland,
I looked at the Viking engine at Sun & Fun between tornadoes and it looked good from the out side with two questions.
1- The compression ratio is 10.4 and that seemed high for the 87 octane specified. My concernes were mitigated on finding the new Honda 250cc single has 10.7 and 87 octane is specified. The EFI also closely controls the fuel ratio to eliminate lean conditions.
2- While I'm sure the testing was done the K&N cone filter surely looks small relative to the engine displacement and resulting required air flow rate. We have used them for years with good success on motorcycles and no question regarding the K&N - just the size. It looks like the selection was more cowl dimension related.

I will look forward to your reporting on this engine as well.
