[rebel-builders] wire sizes and types

I concur. IMHO, unless a builder is already an _aviation_ electrical
engineer, he/she shouldn't be planning or playing with sparks without first
reading Bob Nuckolls' $23 book. See *http://tinyurl.com/36e7ddd* Bob has
decades of experiences as an aviation electronics engineer, and freely
shares his knowledge. Even for those of us who already have a strong
electronics background, the book's coverage of aviation specific issues,
hardware, and techniques is invaluable. There will not be a better spent $23
on your project than for this book.

There isn't much point in speculating about all the variables of individual
systems and needs until you've digested this book first. Too many details
are related to and/or dependent on others. To put that another way, if you
choose to do something differently than Bob recommends, you really ought to
be able to explain why your idea is better than his before you do it.

In addition, the Aeroelectric mailing list, hosted by Matronics, and its
archives, are another invaluable source of info in this particular subject
area. See http://aeroelectric.com/consulting.html But read the book first.

That being said, there are many discussions about the mechanical particulars
of routing wires and conduits through Rebel wings contained in the archives
of this list... also good reading. So if that mechanical aspect is your main
concern at this point, search the archives for "conduit" and/or a few other
terms. If you still have questions after that, by all means, fire away! :)

[rebel-builders] wire sizes and types

Great input about the wiring. I do not have that book but will definately get it... I am an electronic tech at the Kennedy Space Center and get training and recerts all the time.
You guys are right on the money about getting the correct information before installing the wiring. Not enough can be stressed on doing what the engineers spec for wire size and terminations. Using a proper aviation wire, connectors and crimpers will keep you in the air. When doing the connections most of the work is in proper preperation before crimping or soldering the connector. Neat bundles but not too tight so you don't deform the insulation or cause a future short conditon. Remember to support the wire near the terminals to avoid having the wire hanging by the connector, one of the major causes in wiring failures that I have seen.
