[rebel-builders] RE: Door sill damage

Post by Walter Klatt » Sun Feb 19, 2012 6:31 pm

Thanks, guys, for the info and tips. Sounds like I need to replace the
channel, at the least.

Since it is still summer and prime flying season, want to make it quick and
easy. But I don't have any ST 28 material, and a visit to the local metal
mart shops don't carry that kind of channel.

Does anyone know if MAM has some in stock. Since I am only about an hour
driving from Chilliwack, might drop in to see if I can get some there.

Digging through my aluminum bin, I did find some channels that were the cut
off pieces from the roof bulkheads. I believe they are .025. There are two
sizes so they fit into each other. I might be able to use the smaller one
and attach it to the inside of my existing ST31 channel, using it as a
doubler to cover the buckle point. That might hold it to the winter, when I
won't feel bad with some down time, and do the full blown fix then, with new
skins.

Hi Walter

I did my right side last year. Not to big a repair except making the
channel.
Replaced the channel and side skin with .032. Had to make the channel
because couldn't get MAM to give me a delivery date. Ended up buying a
brake from KMS to do the job. Had to file down a piece of flat bar to get
the
right radius for the bend. Call me if you need more info.

How much ST-28 do you need? I have (2) about 32" and (1) about 48" you're
welcome to have. I could fly them up close to the border somewhere.

At least to Bellingham, which is still inside my flight test area. (I also
have another reason to go there, actually.) Write me direct if you need
them.
