Sure glad I shop at a west coast Wall-Mart.

witches hat install & floatfixes

Hi Bruce !

If you haven't completed that area, and <ARE> planning on floats,
I would definitely add the gusset plates, AND the double row of rivets,
as Wayne recommends. And especially, the firewall reinforcements ! The
Elite needs all of these fixes, as well.

The Rebel (and Elite) are pretty strong airplanes, but float
flying is a VERY demanding environment, and the G loads of rough water
takeoffs & landings can be 'WAY HIGHER than anything you would ever
encounter on wheels ! I've looked at what <I thought> were small waves,
driven by what <I thought> was a light breeze, and touched down so hard
I thought I'd lose the fillings out of my teeth !! After checking
everything over very carefully, I then had to TAKE OFF again, to get
home - NOT pleasant ! So, if you're going float flying, it's best
to prepare for the worst, ahead of time ...

The example I always use is: Just imagine driving your car
across a parking lot, over those concrete curbs ("speed bumps") at
60 miles per hour - that's just about exactly what it feels like !!
You will not believe the pounding the Rebel can take on floats !

Wayne,

How important are the gusset plates at the top of the front and rear door
post, on MAM float fix? The new manuals only show the 2" channel between the
engine mounts, but the SB show the channel "and" the gusset plates. Brian G.,
at MAM, told me only one Rebel on floats ever had a problem at the door post
and it was landing in to rough of water.
