[rebel-builders] Woe is me!

So Keith,
What is the dihedral setting for each wing in comparison to what it should
be?

Jeff

one such discrepancy was two of the five bolts that hold the lift
strut attachment brackets to the spar, these five bolts were all the
same length and the original builder had installed two 1/16" washers
on each bolt one under the head, and one under the nut, this was
OK for the top three, however, the bottom two must penetrate
thicker material so this left no thread exposed beyond the nut. I
simply removed the two thick washers and installed one thin one
under the nut. Easy fix!

More recently while trying to adjust the control system I was unable
to get the flaperons to opperate correctly, no matter what I did
the right one would allways go down too far but would not go up far
enough. After much cussing and hair pulling I decided to take some
measurements and found the R. wing is angled up 3* more then the
left, however, but it matches the profile of the fuselage perfectly.
As it turns out the fuselage is the culprit, I can only assume that
the original builder did not square it up before riveting it together.
Woe is me NOT AN EASY FIX? Trim tabs I guess?

What part of the fuselage? The bulkhead at the rear wing attach fitting or
the front or both?

[rebel-builders] Woe is me!

Curious as Jeff is.. are you saying the dihedral is 3 degrees more... or the
angle of attack is 3 degrees more on the one wing than the other??

I have a hard time picturing the cabin with that much twist in it.... if
you're talking angle of attack. If the fuselage and wing profile match..
then the wing attach fittings are in the correct place as are the fuselages
fittings.

That said.. the wing root fairings can hide plenty of misalignment.... if
you can't figure a way to get things straight, make an eccentric bushing for
the front attach on the FUSELAGE tube and gusset plates. It has plenty of
edge distance to allow making a bushing that you can drill offset to correct
the 3 degrees difference.

NOW.. now that I've typed that... THREE degrees....I haven't seen a complete
wreck that was tweeked 3 degrees.. that's the throat angle between floats
and wings that we mount at approximately. There is no way the wings are that
much different. I just laid that out on the counter.. 3 * over about 44
inches(estimate rear to front attach fittings) has one pick up about 3
INCHES higher than the other one.

You must be talking Dihedral...... Make a new end fitting for a strut..
ether longer or short to use the same bolt holes.

Wayne
