[rebel-builders] seat rails/seats

Post by Richard Wampach » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:49 pm

Yes on the Cessna seats. Ozzy Nelson used two in his moose, now living in
the state of WA.

I have 4 of the articulating seats ready to go in my Moose from 172 / 182
series planes. They were not cheap! However if you find some from a
C-177, there are a lot of them to be had. The 177 track spacing is 1"
narrower than the ones I have. I will be adding spacers at the wheels to
make them fit the Murphy tracks, which are wider in cross section. I may
have to reduce the diameter of the wheels by a small amount to have them
work on the Murphy tracks.

On my seats, which I had re-upholstered in leather, I added 3 layers of 1"
thick contour foam in the 3 densities to the bottoms (softest against the
body). Used 2 layers on the backs, (soft and medium). Purchased the foam
from the vender in the Midwest.

You might try McFarlin for seat rails and wheels they make direct
replacement parts for a number of airplanes. On the Cessna's that I have
used them on it would appear that they are about 10% heavier in cross
section. I have not had any of them crack as I have often seen on original
tracks.

We do have a salvage yard here in the Sacramento area that had a batch of
177 seats in a storage bin Ken Faith 916-368-1832.
Some of the older C-210 seats might work also, but as I recall they only
have seat stop pins in one rail.

Subject: [rebel-builders] seat rails

Hi,
Does anyone know where MAM sources their seat rails? I keep asking the
murtech mailbox but no one has replied to my requests. I suppose the next
step is to call, but I guess I was hoping do avoid unnecessary long distance

charges.

As a follow up, has anyone tried to mate cessna seats with MAM rails? for
that matter, has anyone actually used articulating cessna seats in their
rebel? My guess is they're significantly heavier than an upholstered MAM
seat, but the right ones sure can be comfortable, and ususally at very
reasonable prices (used and online). Also makes re-upholstering more
pleasant, I would imagine.

Thanks in advance for your help,
Rob
