[rebel-builders] Super Rebel Windshield

Post by Ted Waltman » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:41 pm

Hello Jeffrey,

I'll take that windshield. Might be a few months (e.g. spring) before I
pick it up, but I'll take it! I assume it is still in the drop-shipped box
from PA?

To any Super Rebel builders who may be crossing the southern Rockies in the
near future -- I have a windshield that was sent to me by mistake from
Murphy a number of years ago. Many times I have contacted the factory about
arranging to return it, and I never heard back from them. So it sits in my
hanger just south of Albuquerque, NM -- free to whomever wants to claim it
... and collect it.

am in Houston for the year)

Dear Charlie and Ted,

I'll be glad to let you guys work this out! The windshield is in the
original box, but the box itself is not in the best of shape to ship again.
No hurry on this, and as I will be going back to ABQ tomorrow, let me check
again on the part number so that you can be assured it is indeed for the SR.
It is at MidValley Airport, about 20 miles south of Albuquerque on I-25.

Jeffery,

I'll be glad to buy the windshield from you - just had a big crack in mine
while flying this past week. No idea of why the crack; it's in a non stress
area around the wing fairing. I can have my son-in-law pick it up if it's
in the Denver area; or if it's in the Houston area, I'll come get it.

[rebel-builders] Super Rebel Windshield

Post by Richard Wampach » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:41 pm

Gee Guys, I would be willing to come down in a week or so to pick up that
windshield, when I crack mine!!! Now that the painting is done I am ready
to install my windshield permanently, along with every thing else. So my
chances are pretty good for needing one soon!

OK, OK, Charlie sounds like you need it soonest & mostest. Do they make
clear Duct tape for a temporary fix?

Charlie, any kind of a pressure point can do it. The vibrations in an
airplane can cause havoc on airplane parts. I like the idea of the glass
floating in some form of isolation padding, weather it is a thick soft
rubber gasket, felt, or a sealant like is used on automobile windshields.
The small rubber "U" channel rubber material that comes with the kit is not
sufficient for the job. I'm not too keen on using RTV, but some people have
good results. I don't think the Murphy window frame flexes as much as do
most Cessna frames,

[rebel-builders] Super Rebel Windshield

Post by Garry Wright » Sun Feb 19, 2012 5:41 pm

Wayne installed the windsheild in FOKM with butyl(rolled lengths
separated by a tape) which is the same sealant used in cars. Buy it at
automotive places like Napa. The windsheild floats in retainers so no
holes are drilled. I had to redo this due to other issues and it still
goes just fine. Only issues would be leaks if you don't do it right. The
flexing of the aircraft won't bother it.
