covering my recent trip from Denver to Columbus, Montana for a Moose/Super
Rebel fly-in. We had two Moose and two Super Rebels in Columbus. A sincere
thank you to Larry Luckinbill and especially to Linda Niemi for hosting all
of us for the weekend. Linda is simply an outstanding gourmet cook (and
Larry knows how to serve a great beer <grin>).
Moose performed perfectly. Flew up at 11,500' with (as usual) about a 15 to
20 knot headwind. Very smooth with unlimited visibility. Nice (yippee!)
30+ knot tailwind on the trip home. Rough flight at times-especially with a
fairly steep let down into the Denver area (have to stay under the Class-B
area for Denver International-get below 8,000' pretty far out). A little
over 4 hours up and about 3.2 hours on the return flight (355 nm or so).
Flew next to Thomas Thomas in his Moose for a 1/2 hour+ flight around the
Columbus area to compare performance and flew flow #'s. Both Moose are
configured with about the same size tires (I have 26" and Thomas has 29");
Both Moose have VG's at the 10% of chord (we measured) location.
Performance was as identical as we could see at a variety of power (fuel
flow) settings.

Great shots Ted --- looks like it was a great trip, and especially nice to
include flying alongside another plane so similar to your own.
